I recently watched "The Hunger Games" with my wife after both of us read the book. I'm not going to spend this post talking about how much better the book is from the movie. That would be a looooong discussion that I'm sure will fuel lots of debate from both sides of the argument. Instead, I want to talk about the unbelievable HUNGER that people, both young and old, have for this book.
It truly is amazing that it made over $150 million in its opening weekend. It is also amazing that so many people are talking about it with such passion and excitement. I recently talked to an eleven year old who couldn't contain her excitement about what the book was about. I stood in awe as she went into detail after detail about the games, jabberjays and the districts. I was intrigued.
So I read the book.
So I got to thinking; what do I think about the bible? What is my level of enthusiasm when it comes to the TRUE stories contained within? Do I talk about it with the same passion as that preteen talked to me about "The Hunger Games"? Sadly, if I were to take a personal inventory I'd have to say "no." My desire and focus of prayer is that I would talk about God's Word with as much passion and conviction as I see going on around me about a fictional tale. And who knows? Maybe my passion would cause someone to read the bible and discover its Truth.
