Think About These Things

1,440 Minutes in a day.  Subtract the 480 minutes (8 hours) you sleep every night (who gets that much?) and you get 960 minutes of wakefulness.  That is 16 hours that you have your eyes open, doing stuff.  16 hours of getting ready, getting kids ready, working, showering, driving, mowing, exercising (you get the point).

What is your mind doing during those times?  Is there ever a time where you can be free of thinking about something?  The answer is no!  There is not one second where we don't think.

Try it.  Don't think about something.

What did you not think about?  That is exactly my point. The more we don't think about thing the more we think about everything.  So since we can't help that we think about stuff, why don't we tell our brain what to think about.

Philippians 4:8, which you can read by clicking on it, tells us to think about godly things.  Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy.  How are you about thinking of those things?  I have to tell you that I'm not very good at that sometimes.  Okay most of the time.  But that is why we are on this journey together as believers in Christ.  To help each other out.

I'm convinced that our mind is going to be filled with something, whether worries of the day or godly things and it up to us to decide what we want to think about.  So whenever those worries cloud our thoughts, begin thinking on the things that please God.

Here are some suggestions on how to do that:

Pray Continually

You have to listen to the guy in this link of a Dramatized 1 Thessalonians 5 (I wish my voice sounded like that!).  1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to "pray without ceasing".  It will take some practice, but you can be in a "spirit of prayer" throughout your day.  It's hard to worry when you are talking to God about things.

Listen to Christian Music

There are a lot of artists that sound similar to secular music.  And the thing about Christian music is that it is uplifting and honors God.  Most of the time secular music is self-absorbed and honors the artist.  If you want some more info on current Christian artists, can click here.

Take some time to read the bible every day.

There is nothing more rewarding than to read God's Word.  It fills you with His thoughts, and His instructions, and His plans for you. If you don't have time to do that, then you are doing too much stuff!

I'm excited to hear about what God will show you over the next few weeks as you take time to fill your mind with Him!  And as always, let me know by commenting below.
